COACHING FOR MANAGERS COURSE DESCRIPTION
As a manager, one of your most important roles is to coach your people to do their best. The fundamental principle behind coaching is that each individual is capable of owning and solving their own problems through you as a manager supporting, questioning and eliciting solutions from them. By doing this, you’ll help your team members make better decisions, solve problems that are holding them back, learn new skills, and progress their careers.
At Delphis we want to assist companies to move towards employee-oriented performance management so managers can support and coach their employees to succeed.
This one-day highly practical course will prepare managers and leaders to understand what coaching is and then to use a range of styles to support and develop their people for higher performance and productivity.
The models and skills learned at this workshop can be applied formally and informally in a wide range of workplace situations to support a culture of continuous improvement. By learning and understanding effective coaching skills, delegates will develop an effective method of developing individuals and teams to raise confidence and competence in the workplace.

The GROW Model is a simple yet powerful framework for structuring coaching sessions.
Apply active listening and questioning techniques to encourage learning
Give effective feedback to encourage improvement
Coaches are good at gathering information and then clarifying it for the person being coached. It is important to have strong listening skills, including active listening. The key is to not jump in straight away with the answer but rather make sure that your team member has fully understood the issue by reflecting and clarifying. Similarly, coaches have usually taken time to develop strong questioning skills. These two sessions combined will: • Define the necessary skills required to be an effective coach and why they are important • Once these have been identified delegates will look at how we can use questions to help an individual develop, whilst also listening actively and being prepared to give feedback Delegates will be given the opportunity to practise using these question types together with demonstrating active listening and providing effective feedback to a fellow participant. They will be observed against this criteria and receive feedback on examples of questions used and the quality of feedback they delivered
Run a practice session with fellow participants
Successful coaching comes from good questioning and active listening. As we have seen the GROW Model structures the conversation and provides us with the opportunity to ask the right questions at the right time. This next group activity will help you to prepare for a coaching session you will run by producing some examples of questions you could ask. Delegates will then spend some time noting down the details of a work issue, which they find challenging and would appreciate being coached on. Each delegate will have an opportunity to be coached on their issue, observe others and practise giving feedback.
Create an action plan to implement your learning in the work place
This session will recap on the agenda and learning activities covered in the workshop. Delegates will be asked to complete an action plan, identifying key activities to be undertaken once they return to the workplace.
